When working on a new project, the best way to ensure your design is meaningful and relevant is to design to a brief. But how can you do this if the client doesn’t give you a brief? 🤔⁠⁠
⁠⁠
If this happens, you may have to build the brief yourself. Now this may sound like a lot of work, but it’s actually quite simple. There are some very easy ways to gain the information you need from the client to ensure you can create a detailed brief.⁠⁠

When we work in design we can find we become niche

When we work in design we can find we become niched due to the skills we have. We may find that our first design job requires certain skills, such as screen-based or digital media. Then when we go for another job, we can only really get the jobs that are looking for the same skills. Sound familiar?⁠⁠
⁠⁠
This can cause you to feel you’re in a bit of a rut 😓 doing the same type of design all the time. If you’re interested in mixing things up to re-spark your creativity, it might be time to learn a new skill! Learning a new skill can help keep the creative spark within you alight by constantly challenging your creativity and exploring new possibilities. ⁠⁠
⁠⁠
If, like many of us, you’re spending a lot of your time at your computer creating digital media, try some more tactile, hands on forms of media like painting 🎨 or drawing ✏️ This will help you step away from the norm and think about art and design in a different way. ⁠⁠
⁠⁠
It’s so easy to put blinkers on and just see your usual style of design, but if you take the blinkers off and dabble in some other forms of creativity, you may just find yourself feeling more creative than you did before.⁠⁠

To many, creativity seems an elusive quality that

To many, creativity seems an elusive quality that is bestowed upon a select few. But this simply isn’t the case. When people say they aren’t creative, I believe what they mean to say is “I don’t know how to channel my creativity into something physical”. ⁠⁠
⁠⁠
When we think of creativity, we think of things like drawing ✍️ painting 🎨 music 🎶 or dancing 🕺 These are the ‘creative stereotypes’ that come to mind, but there is more to creativity than these. I believe creativity is not a thing we can hold or a special gift. I believe creativity is a force of nature, an energy, a light that we all have within us.⁠⁠
⁠⁠
We are creative every single day. When we dream, act spontaneously, use our imagination, converse with one another or express ourselves in any way, we are being creative. Perhaps your creative expression isn’t a ‘traditional creative stereotype’, but that doesn’t mean you’re any less creative than people who partake in these activities. ⁠⁠
⁠⁠
Some people draw, others cook. Some people dance, others run. Some people write, others garden. Some people sing, others build.⁠⁠
⁠⁠
Whatever you do, however you express yourself, you’re channelling your creativity. If you don’t feel creative or don’t think you’re creative, you just haven’t found a way to channel your creativity yet.⁠⁠

These days, there are so many ways to learn graphic design that it really depends on your preferred method and your circumstances. ⁠⁠
